Firefly-like Gems

Firefly, the wild west space-smuggler outlaw epic sci-fi series has long been one of my most favourite worlds to revisit. Though this series made for TV only lasted a single season, love of the series brought it back to life with an equally awesome feature film called Serenity three years after Firefly's cancellation.

Firefly and Serenity filled the gap for people like me who grew up with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and the Star Wars movies with a bit of old west Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie (with guns and spaceships)  tossed in. A space drama that was witty, action-packed, but still a little gritty, Firefly felt like what our world could look like in a few hundred years. The characters felt like people we wanted to know more about, route for, and finally see them win a little though they were underdogs and outcasts.

I highly recommend the TV show Firefly and the movie Serenity. They are in my top five favourites!

And if you like Firefly, you are going to love these two sci-fi gems I've recently found!

"Browncoats" like me have been yearning for some show to fill the Firefly emptiness after no future plans came through to continue the series or film, but nothing has seemed to live up to the awesome world Joss Wheadon created.

However, two shows that began in my home nation of Canada have risen to the top of my sci-fi radar: Dark Matter and Killjoys.

DARK MATTER (Space, Syfy)

I've been watching Dark Matter since it aired in 2015 and it just concluded it's 2nd season. The premise has a crew of six on a small ship wake up with their memories wiped and proceed to figure out who they are and what happened to them, while dealing with people and circumstances from their past lives. They end up calling each other number One through Six, in the order they woke up on their ship and though being little more confusing to keep track of who was who with just numbers, I found that the numbersstuck like names after a few episodes.

The world of Dark Matter feels as real and as rich as the world of Firefly. The setting is deep space with rustic mining worlds and space stations with giant corporations owning and ruling everyone. There is also awesome new technology ideas with hints of cloning, space travel, telepathy, new weapons and fantastic androids. Mysteries pop up around every corner with the crew not knowing who knows them and who they know, who to trust and who to run from or fight.

The cast is an interesting mix from the serious leaders, to the gun-happy brute, to a teen computer hacker. Without giving too much away, the main characters now have to grapple with not only finding out who they were but who they now want to become. Do they want to slip back into their past ways when they don't feel the same way about life? Will they keep their new-found sense of morality and fairness or will they seek to rediscover their past motivations?

Mostly, the crew quickly becomes a tightly-knit family, if a bit reluctantly from a few members, and they struggle through their new lives one situation at a time with remnants of who they used to be falling into their laps in awkward ways.

I'm super excited that Dark Matter has been renewed for a third season, airing in 2017!

KILLJOYS (Space, Syfy)

This sci-fi series has been around since 2015 as well, but I've just discovered it after looking for any other similar show to Firefly and Dark Matter. It, too, has Canadian roots, ordered by our Space channel and then picked up and co-produced by the US Syfy channel and first airing in 2015.

Killjoys follows a crew of three bounty hunters who live for the next warrant to apprehend people or property at any cost. It's set in a 4-planet system in deep space know as the Quad, whose worlds are detailed and believable, from the scummy towns of the poor mining and hard-labour colonists to the beautifully lush and green planets of the rich 9 families who seem to be the main governing body.

The trio is quickly set up with bonds of friendship and family but each seem to have their own personal secrets and past that creep out to haunt or trip them up along the way. As Reclamation Apprehension Coalition, or RAC, agents they remain neural in all conflicts with no allegiance to anyone or any ruling party, but several of their missions mixed with their own pasts seem to force them to make hard decisions about who to trust.

The three main characters work well and balance each other.
"Dutch" is the main protagonist, a ruthless warrior woman who is more lethal than she looks, especially when undercover in fancy clothing. We quickly see snippets of her upbringing and how she received her brutal training. Her mysteries expand as we see more and more of who she used to be.
John is her former-thief partner and they work well together, getting their warrants efficiently with amazing witty quips along the way.
As the series opens, we meet the third cast member who joins the main duo and quickly learns the business but with troubles of his own past rearing up to cause them all to stumble along their way. (Plus it helps that he's super pretty to look at!)

The Quad and the Killjoys' world is fun, full of action, yet also ripe with mysteries and complex subplots moving ahead. I love the costumes, the weapons, the ships, the different and contrasting planets. It's like Alias meets Firefly in a new way!

I've only watched the first season so far, the second is ready and waiting for me to enjoy as soon as I can find the time, and happily, Killjoys has been renewed for Season 3 airing next year.

I hope you try out these shows and find them as entertaining and complexly satisfying as I have!

Movie Reviews: 2016

If you know me or have read this blog for a while, you'll know that I am a movie buff. Yes, I love  going to movies, the adventure of getting out, fresh warm popcorn, finding our favourite seats, always the ones with the footrest! Or I just love being at home, cozied up with a blanket, and choosing some new-to-me adventure right in my own living room.

It's been a while since I've done any movie reviews (see the new Reviews tab above), so here is my take on the movies I've seen in 2016 so far and a few of the upcoming films I am excited to see.

Family Movies:

Finding Dory

Best sequel I've seen in a long time. Excellent new characters, great backstory for Dory, funny jokes for the adults and lots of action. Loved the whales, the "sept"-apus and the sea lions! (Watch until mid-credits!) And gosh but isn't young Dory just the cutest creature ever!?!

The Jungle Book

Beautiful movie, amazing effects, great acting by newcomer, Neel Sethi who plays Mowgli. Loved the voice acting from Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, and Scarlett Johansson to name a few.

Zootopia

Awesome movie for adults and kids. I took my 6 year old nephews and the scariest/jumpy bits (of animals acting like wild animals) weren't too bad for them. Amazing world, love reading all the little background city signs etc. Great story.

The Secret Life of Pets

Okay animated movie. Again, my nephews enjoyed it and the scene that they kept talking about after was the crazy snake scene. Loved the bunny!

My Favourites:

Star Trek Beyond

Good premise but similar to the new Star Wars...orphaned girl, mechanic, seeks help of people who crash landed...Good villain, interesting scenes with the "swarming" enemy ships. Best moment includes a favourite piece of Beastie Boyz music! Also really liked the new Starbase Yorktown and the gravity-defying scenes.

Deadpool

Totally brutal, harsh and violent...but also totally AWESOME! (#sorrynotsorry!) Ryan Reynolds is one of my favourite actors and he delivers a brilliantly creative and sarcastic role. I love how they poke fun at their own movie as well and the X-Men franchise.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Good but not perfect as far as X-Men movies go. Some decent backstory for all of the main characters and we are introduced to a few new ones. There were a few eye-rolling moments from me when certain characters seem to get away without injury from extremely dangerous situations or explosions. I am also not a huge fan of movies that seem to use CG effects to totally demolish entire cities and innocent people on a grand scale just for dramatic effect. Loved seeing my favourites Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Evan Peters! Quicksilver is the best!!

Jason Bourne

I'm a huge fan of all the Bourne movies and enjoyed this latest chapter in Jason's saga. I'm glad they included Julia Stiles' character, Nicky Parsons, and I thought newcomer to the Bourne family, Alicia Vikander, worked well as an adversary/ally for Jason.

Fun and Interesting:

  • Bad Moms - You will laugh...a lot! Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn steal the show!
  • Mother's Day - Heartwarming, sweet, funny, ridiculous at times, but fun.
  • Love & Freindship - Based on a Jane Austen story about Lady Susan trying to find a husband for her daughter but taking one for herself instead. Of course I love Austen books and films but this one felt a little off since I didn't really like the main character. I did love all the intrigue around Lady Susan's manipulations but I also just love this era of society.
  • War Dogs - Interesting, eye-opening that it's based on a real story. You don't really realize the crazy deals the US Government makes to supply it's forces and how two young guys could get into such a mess just trying to make some money from those opportunities.
  • Snowden - You'll go home and cover your computers web-cam! A good look inside one of the biggest US security leaks...but you wonder if you really wanted to know what Snowden wanted us all to know. Is the cost of security really giving away our rights and privacy? A deep thinking movie.

Don't Bother:

  • Hail, Caesar! - Bleh! I should've known I wouldn't like this movie full of convoluted, over-the-top, Hollywood silliness. Josh Brolin was the only redeeming actor and the only amusing scene was seeing Channing Tatum tap dance with a room full of sailors.
  • The Legend of Tarzan - Action, CG, vine-swinging... and a pretty Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd. Not much else.
  • How to be Single - While I usually enjoy Rebel Wilson's comedy, in this she was a hint away from annoying and Dakota Johnson's character just made me plain sad. Don't see this movie if you are actually single.
  • The Divergent Series: Allegiant - I liked the first two books in this series but hated the third, upon which this movie is based. And it certainly translated as such on screen. Apparently the Part 2 of this movie isn't even going to theatres. Awww shucks.
  • The Boss - A fun spin on Beverly Hills Troop, but Melissa McCarthy is not at all likeable. The only redeemable person is Kristen Bell's character. She's the best!
  • Suicide Squad - Awesome costumes, great characters, a good idea BUT....no/bad/silly/confusing plot or story line. Bad all around.
  • The Light Between Oceans - Emotional, yes, interesting, yes, but utterly predictable and not at all satisfying.

Movies I'm excited to see:

  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - YES!! I can't wait for these new characters mixed with a few familiar faces to tell us more of the Star Wars story!
  • The Magnificent Seven - It's had mixed reviews, but I still like a good Western. Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke? Yes!
  • Queen of Katwe - Looks like a great story!
  • Deepwater Horizon - Tragedy and heroism + Marky Mark!
  • Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Fantasy, powers, and kids.
  • The Accountant - Ben Affleck is a math savant who handles money for all sorts of miscreants. Plus guns.
  • Doctor Strange - Comic book mystic...looks like Inception meets adult Harry Potter!
  • Hacksaw Ridge - True story about a pacifist soldier who becomes a hero for saving the lives of the wounded.
  • Arrival - Sci-fi alien movie that looks more about the anticipation and social confusion of first contact than the actual contact.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - Continuation in the world of Harry Potter!
  • Passengers - Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, two of my favs, wake up early on a long mission to a new space colony...mysterious events ensue plus maybe a little romance? Fun!

What movies did YOU enjoy this past season and what are YOU looking forward to seeing?

Leave a comment. :)

Movie Reviews: From Fairy Wings to Unicorn Kittens

If you know me at all or have read my blog, you will know that I love movies! I've been known to wait in line in the freezing cold or pouring rain for movie premieres and braved teen-girl scream-filled audiences to see late-night openings of certain features. Movies, to me, are like visual storybooks. I love seeing the worlds of a book or from the mind come alive, seeing imagination exploding in vibrant colours and creatures in front of me.
I do have a handful of movies I absolutely do not like. Just ask me and I will gladly let you know what to avoid. Yet, more often I find some good qualities in most films.

In the past I have written a few movie reviews and even review movie music. (find those posts here >>)

I've see a few movies over the past months and quickly jotted down my thoughts and ratings for most of them.
Here they are, Reviews from January to June:

Maleficent - 4/5 Stars - A Disney remake/flip telling the "real" story behind the classic Sleeping Beauty tale. I quite enjoyed this expanded Disney universe and the backstory behind the jilted fairy villain. The world was imaginative, the creatures compelling with some new ideas and some seemingly a mix of Peter Jackson/Tolkein visualizations. The story was ok, I would have liked even more backstory to Maleficent and her parents, etc. I also found the greed-motivation behind King Stefan to have been poorly shown. Why was he so amazing and loving with Mal and yet we never saw a hint of his ambitions or greed other than one short statement as a child? Ah well. All told, I liked that we were shown a heart behind the villain and we discovered the reason behind her rage and vindictiveness. (Side note, I loved the flying dragony-elephant creatures! So neat! And her wings! Awesome!)

The Fault in Our Stars - 5/5 Stars - I usually don't like reading or watching such emotionally draining books or films, however, this film (and I'm sure the book, once I read it) is brilliantly written and acted. We are taken on a journey of a teenager who is terminally ill with cancer and see her viewpoint and her reactions to the medical, therapy and familiar relationships around her. I was sure I was in for an overly, sugary sweet or cheesy film, akin to a Sparks novel on ramped up Skittles, but I was pleasantly surprised and warmed by the sweet but smart love story involved. There were times when audible, heart-wrenching sobs were heard in the theatre behind me as I tried to pretend I, too, wasn't silently bawling my eyes out. A good cry movie!

X-Men: Days of Future Past - 4/5 Stars - Like the current Star Trek films, this new topsy-turvy, time-travely comic book movie is a reboot to the whole Marvel X-Men franchise. Anyone who hasn't seen all of the previous X-Men films may be slightly confused and need some explanations afterwards (not during!) but those who know this world should be pleased with the characters and storyline. Yes, ok, the film differs somewhat from the actual comic book storyline (ie. switching Wolverine for Kitty etc), however the plot moves us along at a smart pace, telling us how their universe has ended up with smart machines hunting down mutants and how going back in time can possibly stop these events from occurring. Every time travel movie I've ever seen tried super hard to explain what and why and how they can change the past, X-Men: Days tries just as hard, while leaving many loopholes open for us sticklers to wonder about. (le sigh) Ok, anyhow, the cool bits - even if we don't know some of these neat characters names we can see their awesome powers with very cool visual effects, the mutant hunting machine are quite neat, Jennifer Lawrence as the young Mystique kicks butt and her roundhouse kicking blue feet take names!! There was just enough dry, witty humour to satisfy me and though not loads of action, enough for me to feel the tension. PS - Peter Dinklage can do no wrong! Love that guy! PPS - James McAvoy can read my mind any day! PPPS - Best scene: Pentagon kitchen with Quicksilver and "Time in a Bottle" song!!

The Grand Seduction - 5/5 Stars - Initial reaction: Sweet, cute, smart, funny, loveable, typical "lying is never the best answer but sometimes it is" storyline. A small town (think 150 people!) has lost its' drive, ambition and purpose with residents out of work and on welfare. To attract a sizeable factory bid they must hire a full-time resident doctor on at least a 5-year contract for the bid to even be entertained. This leads us to a folly-filled, East Coast fish & boat humour filled romp of lies, lies and more covering up lies. There is references to drugs, beer, hockey & cricket, boats, fake fishing, "machines" and really bad interior decorating. Really, this film is good (99%) clean fun with excellent writing, a great cast and gorgeous locations! A Canadian must-see!

The Other Woman - 1/5 Stars - Truly a sad attempt at distraction entertainment and lame humour. Mistresses unite in revenge over their player-cheat of a man. Even for comedy it was distasteful. The ONLY redeeming scene which wasn't even that amazing was the spunky actress Leslie Mann trying to get into a car after drinking too much. Physical comedy hoopla. That's about it. Oh, and a Great Dane pooping in a pristine white living room. Deserved it. Bleh.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 5/5 Stars - one of the best films I've seen in a while. If you are familiar with any former Wes Anderson films (and you like them) this is an excellently and eccentrically told story! Like some of my favourites, The Royal Tenenbaums & Moonrise Kingdom, we are immersed in a plausible yet ficticious world with amazing characters having detailed, interesting and quirky lives. We learn the backstory of a hotel and its' mysterious current owner who began as a humble lobby boy. The acting is suburb, the tangents are applaudable and the oddities amazing! From names, to foods, to clothing and art, this film and its' wild inhabitants are so fetching and interesting that I need to see it  again to catch all the tiny details I may have missed the first time. The cast, as usual, is bursting at the seams with big names and familiar faces. If you only like big blockbusters or gooey romance, this is not for you. But if you like fun, detailed, mind-twisting intricate stories, watch this several times!

Divergent - 4/5 Stars (mainly because I enjoy the book brought to life) - Based on the book by the same title, this movie immerses us into some sort of post-war US within a walled city only able to function through the use of "factions" that you are born into. There is however a choice at age 16 if you wish to leave your faction and entire family behind. This story follows Beatrice who has never felt at home in her selfless faction and yearns for the dangers and risks taken in another. As her story unfolds, we also see the walls of the leadership and governing bodies crumble as corruption and power pollute their "perfect" society. We also learn that for some reason "Tris" (weirdest nickname from a real name ever award) is different than almost everyone in that she could be suited for more than just one faction, a threat to the way of life and hunted out as a "divergent" in their system. Yes, there is also a bit of a love story, bullies, combat training, and the most dangerous but most amazing zip-line ever!! A pretty good novel adaptation, although a few of the alterations I found unnecessary - a certain death that is barely mentioned in the book is ridiculously acted, a few of the character were totally skipped or not included much, and a few characters looked too similar and I had a few moments of confusion as to who was who. The world is well done, with costuming, colours and setting. Casting was also pretty close to what I expected, and although I would not have cast Shailene Woodley as Tris for looks alone, she does bring the character to life. Theo James as Four - excellent choice!! I'm eager to see the second and third books brought to life in the upcoming years.

Noah - 1/5 Stars - I caught this movie as it replayed in our local IMAX theatre. Whether you are Christian or not...it's a waste of time and money!! I only wanted to see it so I could discuss it with anyone else. The ONLY interesting bits I found were seeing all the animals, birds, bugs etc making their way onto the Ark and how they dealt with keeping all the critters stowed away for so long. Seriously...that was the ONLY thing I liked. The plot was ridiculous, the setting unrealistic, the costuming looked like they came right from an Urban Outfitters winter catalog, & the cast looked good but were given drivel to act. Probably about 97% of the story was untrue/non-Biblical. I found myself scoffing and rolling my eyes about every 10 seconds at some poor choice of dialogue or plot point. Rock-covered angels? Really? They felt like a cross between a Transformer and a Fraggle Rock Muppet!! A villian makes it onto the Ark? Really? Possible stabbing a baby in the eye? Really?? I won't even begin to pick apart all the crazy, weird choices they made. Don't waste a moment on this piece of garbage. Seriously.

The LEGO Movie - 4/5 Stars - Everything truly WAS awesome is this silly-fun movie! Great voice cast, crazy animation, detailed worlds and sets and scenes, witty humour for kids and adults alike, not too scary villains. I loved the cross-over between the real world and the LEGO world with the father-son interaction. Super Awesome!! (Unicorn Kitten and her world...the best!) So much detail...I need another viewing, or three!

Monuments Men - 5/5 Stars - WW2 team of scholarly/older soldiers sent to Europe to try and rescue as many of our culturally significant works of art as possible before the Nazi steal or destroy them for ever. Amazing cast and excellent, non-typical untold story about WW2. For some reason I am always eager to learn more about WW1 or WW2 and this story even involved many of the works of art that I've studied in the past. Extremely well-done, informative and action-packed film!

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recuit - 4/5 Stars - Another reboot, this time of our beloved Jack Ryan analyst/spy made famous first by Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October, then by Harrison Ford in subsequent films. (Another remake, Sum of all Fears, also included Ben Affleck but that wasn't as successful in my opinion.) Chris Pine is the go-to action guy in Hollywood right now and a new Jack Ryan movie seems to suit him perfectly. Action-running-chasing-fighting-packed with intrigue and lies abounding, Shadow fits the bill for a new take on our favourite non-spy spy. Pine played Ryan well, along with Kenneth Branaugh as the Russian heavy. I'm not a huge Keira Knightly fan, but I didn't mind her in this role. There were a few far-fetched moments and almost eye-rolling stunts but all fit this world well and were mostly plausible for the characters involved.

My Love for Movie Music!

If you know me at all, you know that I love movies!

Comedy, action, adventure, sc-fi, drama, documentary...I love them all.

There are very few and far between films that I don't like for one reason or another. (I should post about that list sometime!)

But today I want to talk about my favourite Movie Soundtracks!

A lot goes into making a movie and the score or song selection has a lot to do with how what we are watching makes us feel.

Here are a few of my favourite albums, in random order, and highlighted picks from among their track listings. (Believe me, I have many more favourites but here's the short-list.)

Current Reviews - TV, Books, Movies

Who doesn't love a good evening of entertainment?
Ahhh the glow and flash of a TV late at night or the crisp sound of a page being turned or the excitement of getting out and seeing a story played out on a huge theatre screen! What fun!
Have you tried any new TV shows this season? Read any new books lately? Or seen any current movies? Like them? Hate them?

Every so often I take a moment to look back and review a few new shows or books I've enjoyed...or simply just made it through.
Here are my most current thoughts:

Anyone who knows me knows I love movies! I love going to movies and the experience of deciding what to see, getting popcorn or smuggling in drug store candy or the occasional slurpee in my bag! I love buying and owning movies, too, and have quite a large collection of DVDs to chose from.

Movies Shows and Movies

So, I've seen quite a lot of movies and shows over the past couple of months and I thought I'd share some thoughts on what I liked and what I did not like.

Theatre:

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - Great adaptation of the book. Of course they cannot include absolutely everything and they had to change a few things to keep the plot rolling in a film. However, I was mad that they basically gave away one of the plot devices right near the beginning where in the novel you are surprised by a certain revelation. Yet I love that we are able to visually escape into the world of Hogwarts and our favourite magical students.

The Proposal - Honestly much better than I was expecting! I laughed a lot and besides a few cheesy moments (dog + eagle), this was a very entertaining, humorous, surprising romantic comedy. PS - I love Ryan Reynolds!

The Hangover - Again, this movie exceeded my expectations! Yes, it had crude, shocking moments, but all of the random, funny bits thrown together in a stew of a night we are all trying to piece together made up for any lack. (from a tiger in a bathroom, to Mike Tyson, to the naked Asian man, to the kooky lone wolf brother-in-law!) PS - Leave right as the credits begin to avoid the most gross parts!!

The Ugly Truth - Not one or my favourite movies of this year. I think Gerard Butler is great but that is about all I liked about this movie. Yes, I chuckled, and maybe smiled a bit, but there wasn't much substance or enough well-written comedy to save it from being just another summer flop.

Star Trek (film and IMAX) - After seeing this movie yes, count 'em three times, once in IMAX, I can honestly say I really enjoyed it every time. Yes I knew the plot and twists after the first viewing, but each time I came away with more details, more insight and more knowledge about this complicated time travel film. Yes, they also totally messed up the original Star Trek timeline and changed a lot of the main character's backgrounds but they made up for that meddling by creating a wonderful new Star Trek world for us all to play in. Kirk was played beautifully, Spock and Uhura's little side plot amused me, but a couple small details really annoyed me each time I watched it. Why in the world would they have had a heavily accented Russian giving all the ship-wide communications? And why in the universe would they ever have cast Winona Ryder as Spock's mother?!?! Both of those silly details get me all riled up! But the movie is an excellent sci-fi adventure, full of battle, comedy, emotion and mind-bending time paradoxes like most Star Trek shows seem to be riddled with.

GI Joe - All I have to say is: some good ideas, cool gadgets...this movie should never have been made. I was actually physically uncomfortable after only about 30 minutes...bad idea.

District 9 - Easily moving to one of my favourite sci-fi films of all time. I have been waiting for this movie to come out; I've read blogs, articles, mock-company websites and trailers all building up this underdog of a film that holds so much more than a simple alien vs human premise. I am very glad they used a non-name actor for the main role or Wikus, a South African 'ambassador' to the alien race that has been stranded on Earth for over 20 years. He begins on the outside, working for the force that is forcing the aliens to live in horrible conditions with little to no rights or comforts, though the aliens have been nothing but easy-going since arriving. But Wikus Van De Merwe (best name ever!), is soon dragged into the aliens life and world living in slum conditions and treated worse than beasts, shot down for no reason. I won't say anything more but I am excited to think there could be a sequel someday. The only drawback is the violence. This movie is basically a war film with a lot of violent warfare and bloodshed. Keep in mind that most of the gore is CG and not at all real (I mean aliens are not real, right?), but once you are in the movie's world, the harsh moments feel very real. Great film, wonderful thought-provoking themes and a good amount of unsettling after thoughts when we reflect the movie upon our own world as it is at present.

Time Traveller's Wife - I admit it...the book is fully superior in telling this unique story of a man who cannot control his physical jumping in and out of different times and the girl/woman he meets who becomes his wife. If you haven't read the book be prepared to need some explanations and helpful hints as the first half simply expects you to be able to guess how and why things happen. My only gripes are that the ending is not in the book at all and that Clare, the wife, does not complain or feel hard done by in the book as much as she seems to in the film. Enough said. Read the book instead.

Julie & Julia - One of the sweetest, real-life, and loveliest movies I've seen in a very long time! A true feel-good movie, even though it does feature 'melt-downs' and heartache and disappointments alike. This movie inspired me, encouraged me, and made me laugh. I highly recommend it!!

Rented:

Outlander - Very interesting genre mixing two very cool types of films; sci-fi meets medieval vikings. Dragon becomes alien and myth becomes reality. A good renter, love the premise and the back story and would even like a movie made about the main characters background. Good special effects and artistry.

Downloaded Shows:

Defying Gravity - from the makers of Grey's Anatomy, very cool new relationship drams/sci-fi show.

Better Off Ted - a mix of something like, The Office, Arrested Development and Bill Nye the Science Guy...no, really! And it's super funny, too!!! (I love shows where the main character speaks to the camera!)

Long Way Round - one of my new favourites already and I'm only a few episodes in!!! Ewan McGregor and his pal Charlie Boorman travel around the globe on motorcycles, 2 men, 2 bikes, 20, 000 miles!!! An awesome travel adventure where we get to see parts of the world never filmed or travelled through. Look it up!!
